Halloween was a lot of fun this year. Dennis was in charge of costumes. His original idea was "Thing 1 and Thing 2," which would have been fun. But I happened to mention that it was a little overdone, so he scrapped that and came up with something WAY better!
Since Desmond tends to walk stiffly and grunt a lot these days, it was decided that he would be Frankenstein, complete with actual bolts in his neck. (OK, in his collar. But ACTUAL BOLTS, people!)
Dexter is pretty fascinated with airplanes (among other things), so he was going to be an airplane. But then he kindof ended up being a pilot flying an airplane. Anyway, his airplane was hella awesome, with working lights and a propeller that really did spin. In fact, the only thing we bought for this costume was the pilot hat and silver spray paint. Somehow, we had everything else lying around.
First - Grandma's shirts. Grandma traditionally makes embroidered holiday shirts for the grandkids, and this Halloween was no exception. Desmond and Dexter looked pretty sharp in their Ghost and Dracula shirts, respecitvely.

We ended up trick-or-treating at Denny's house and then at a few houses near ours. Dexter was great about saying "Trick or Treat!" and about saying "Thank You!" in his cute, mousy little toddler voice. He didn't get great candy - lots of tootsie rolls and starburst and jawbreakers. (Note to self: choose candy that does not pose a choking hazard for the adorable children who might one day trick-or-treat at my door.)
He did get one Reese's Peanut Butter cup, the peanut m&ms, and a few other goodies. He even got to eat most of them himself over the next week or so. :) (We didn't need to steal his candy, as we had a whole bowl of good stuff for the trick-or-treaters who never came to our house.)
In the end, it was a pretty long night, and both of them had a good post-outing dinner and wind down period.
